NEW FEATURES
Try out new content with trial reels
Note: You must have a professional account to use trial reels. Select creators without a professional account may have access to trial reels as part of ongoing testing.
Explore new ideas with more confidence
Whether you’re stepping into a new creator era or sharing something new just for fun, trial reels gives you the freedom to explore your creativity without the worry of how your followers might react first.
To get started, create your reel. Before sharing, tap the toggle to turn on 'Trial'. After sharing your trial reel, you can find it by visiting your profile where it will appear alongside any drafts you have.
Use trial reels to try out new genres, storytelling formats and content ideas. Only you will be able to see that your reel is a trial, and trial reels don’t appear publicly on your profile.
Note: Some followers may still see your trial reel in other places, like when someone shares it with them in a direct message.
Receive early insights.
Approximately 24 hours after sharing a trial reel, you can view engagement data like views, likes, comments and shares.
The more trial reels you create, the more insights you'll have to compare against other trial reels, and the more understanding you’ll have on what might perform best.
Choose manual or automatic sharing.
If you like how your trial reel is performing, you can tap 'Share to everyone' to share it with your followers.
You also have the option to have Instagram automatically share your trial reel with followers if we determine it’s performing well by getting a lot of views within the first 72 hours.
Pro tip: The sooner you share your reel with everyone, the more likely your followers will be able to see and engage with it in their Feed.
Decide when to use trial reels.
When deciding to post a trial reel, it’s important to remember that it will be shown to non-followers who are likely to be interested in your content. It can take more time than a typical reel to get views, likes and shares because we're finding non-followers who will enjoy the content.
Posting trial reels shouldn’t impact the success of your regular reels content because they are treated separately.
REELS TIPS
What makes a great reel?

Relate to your audience
Create content that clicks with people. If they watch your reel and think “that’s literally me,” you’re on the right track.

Express your perspective
Showcase your personality. Share your passions. Teach people something. Or just share something that’s uniquely you.

Engage in the conversation
Put your twist on conversations of the moment. Whatever’s happening right now, people want to hear your take on it.

Let go of your fears
Remember that there’s no “right” way to create a reel. Your way is the right way. If you’re having fun, chances are your audience will too.

Surprise people
Plan a big reveal, add a punchline or end with a plot twist. Even something as small as an interesting transition may get people watching more than once.

Don’t overthink it!
If you can create stories, you can create reels. Reels is for creators of all video skill levels. Creating a reel can be as simple as adding audio to a series of photos or video clips from your camera roll!
