How Instagram is Helping the Next Generation of Arab Musicians Connect With Fans
April 28, 2023
As part of Arabs @ Meta's celebration of Arab Heritage Month in April, Arab artists Massari, Elyanna, Issam Alnajjar and Maro joined Meta for a panel called "Celebrating the Next Gen of Arab Music." During the panel, the artists discussed how Instagram enables them to connect with fans and grow their fan bases globally.
Here are some of their tips about how artists can use Instagram to expand their global presence:
Elyanna
Get Discovered - Elyanna, who recently became the First Arab Artist to perform a full set in Arabic at Coachella, talked about how posting consistently on Instagram helped her get her break: "I started making covers, so I would always post there [Instagram], and I feel like I was discovered on [Meta] platforms."
Fan Interactions - Maro and Issam Alnajjar harness the power of DMs to help them build authentic and foundational relationships with their fans, with Maro highlighting how "[he's] answered thousands of personal messages." Issam created a reply strategy that keeps his fans wanting more, explaining how he "answered (his fans) on day 100 and they were so happy."
Maro
Issam Alnajjar
Think Global - Massari, who's an artist and also Head of A&R at Universal Arabic Music, stresses the importance of searching globally for collaboration opportunities and to find inspiration. "Within seconds, we can be able to communicate ideas, be able to share ideas, be able to be inspired by people - whether in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, India, here in the West, Europe... it's so essential for me to be tapped in on the ground level."
Massari
