Keep the conversations going, and going
With replies and quote posts, you can share your own thoughts and ideas with your community while keeping up with your favorite topics and content.

Replies
Replies help other people in that conversation discover your profile. Interacting with other profiles gives you the opportunity to make new connections and gain new followers too!

Reposts
When you repost a Thread, that post is shared with your audience, giving them something new and interesting to react to. Reposting is an easy way to bring in a new perspective that your audience may enjoy.

Quote posts
Think of this as a repost, with your own commentary added to it. Quote posts are commonly used when a post is relatable, informative or funny enough that you want to share your own response.
Express yourself (beyond a character limit)
On Threads, you can share more of your ideas and interests with photos and videos, up to 5 minutes long.
Carousel Post
From .5x selfies to post-hike views, you can add up to 20 images and videos when you want to share more moments.
Video Content
Whether it’s a coffee recipe or today’s OOTD, you can include videos with a ratio of 9:16 or 16:9.
In-App Camera
Want to share something live and in the moment? You can take a photo directly with the in-app camera feature
Find your people with Topic Tags
Topic tags are similar to hashtags. They can contain multiple words in a single tag as well as special characters like emojis.
Why use Topic Tags?
- Topic tags are specific keywords or phrases used to categorize and link content to a particular subject.
- Include a topic tag in your post so other people can find it more easily. Tap on a tag to see what others are saying about the same topic.
How to create a topic tag
- Tap the new # button when composing a thread (or type the # key if you are on a keyboard) and start typing your topic.
- Next, select a topic other people are using from the menu that pops up, or create a new one.
- The topic will appear as a blue link in your post. Once posted, anyone can then tap it to see search results for other posts related to the topic.
- At this time, you can only add one tag per post. Be sure to choose one that you think is most relevant to what you are talking about!

Control your experience
Create an environment that helps you express yourself more comfortably, with features that help you limit things you don't want to see.
Control your replies
You can choose whether anyone, profiles you follow or only profiles that are mentioned can reply to your post.
Control who mentions you
Sometimes, we don’t want to be part of the chat. On Threads, you can always control who can mention your profile within settings.
Unquote a post
If someone quotes your post in a way that makes you uncomfortable, you can unquote your thread and remove it from their profile. To do this, tap the three-dot menu on the post you’d like to unquote, and select “remove”.
Two-Factor Authentication
Use two-factor authentication to keep your profile safe, just like Instagram.
Stay safe online with reply controls, hidden words, & reporting tools
Hidden Words
Choose to hide search results, profiles, and replies that contain certain words, phrases or emojis in both your feed and replies section. You can create your own list and custom filters in your settings.

Review Replies
The reply approvals setting lets you review and choose which replies appear on your posts, so you can build the community you want and engage openly without worrying about unwanted comments.

Report a post
Tap the three-dot menu next to the post you’d like to report. Once the menu is open, tap the “Report” option. You can also block a profile by navigating to the profile and tapping the menu. Once the menu is open, tap the “Block” option.

Mute or unfollow
Tap the 3 dots at top right of a thread to mute someone. You can also mute notifications (just in case your content goes viral, of course.)
Threads for web
On threads.com, you can customize your experience to easily find inspiring content and share throughout the day. Pin columns for your favorite searches, profiles, saved posts, or notifications, and have them update in real-time.
Learn how to grow your reach with Insights
Your Insights help you understand what content connects best with your audience, and makes it easier to create future posts based on what you know performs best.
Profile insights are currently available on web and mobile. You can explore metrics for a specific post on mobile or web by tapping on the post, then "View activity.”
You can also use www.threads.net/insights or pin the Insights column by clicking on the Pin icon in the bottom left, then Insights. That way, you have quicker and easier access.
Get discovered
Get discovered on Instagram and/or Facebook
Let your content be the talk of the town on other apps
- You have the option to share your Threads content to Instagram Stories or Instagram Feed by tapping the airplane icon.
- Your audience may also receive notifications on Instagram about you joining and posting on Threads.
Manage recommendations for your Threads posts in other apps
- If your profile is public, your posts may be suggested by Meta to users on other apps so people can discover and follow you. Prefer not having your content suggested on Facebook and Instagram? That's cool too.
- You can always disable this setting by navigating to Settings > Privacy > Suggesting posts on other apps > toggle off 'Instagram' and/or 'Facebook'."
Reach wider audiences with fediverse sharing
Threads has joined the fediverse, an open, global network of social media servers.
- This means that people using different platforms outside of Meta, like Mastodon and Flipboard, can follow your Threads profile and engage with your posts even if they don’t have a Threads profile.
- Visit our Privacy Center for more information about Threads and the fediverse.
FAQ & Best Practices
With Threads, you can personalize your experience based on:
- Your “like” activity is used to provide you with content similar to what you like or are interested in.
Content you like
- What you see in your For You feed is personalized to you based on a number of signals, such as accounts and posts you have interacted with in the past on both Threads and Instagram.
Content you engage with
- Your "hide" activity is used to educate our system to show you less content that is similar to what you hide or are not interested in.
Content you hide
- This determines what content or authors the feed will suggest for you in order to stay engaged and interested in your feed.
Profiles you click on or follow
- We won't show you any content from authors you've muted or blocked. Additionally, our system will show you less content that is similar to that posted by authors you've muted, blocked or reported.
Profiles you mute, block, or report
Certain things can limit your distribution, such as sharing non-recommendable or unoriginal content.
- Of course we want to hear what you have to say, just be sure it doesn’t go against our Recommendation Guidelines, such as content that users broadly tell us they dislike, including clickbait, engagement bait, or which promotes a contest or giveaway.
Non-recommendable content:
- We encourage people on Threads to post content that is original to get the best reach and distribution. It takes a lot of time and effort to create original content, so we believe that those who create it should get credit for their work, even when the content is reposted by other accounts on Threads. Be sure to post content that is engaging and creative to you and your following.
Unoriginal content
- Higher post frequency is linked to higher views per post, so we recommend posting at least two to five times per week.¹ It can be a casual thought, hot take, brilliant idea, or even a joke. Humorous content received a higher number of views on Threads¹, so have fun with it!
Share content often
- POV: You have entered the chat. Replying to anyone is just as important as posting your own original content. Replies account for almost half of the views on Threads and people spend time reading replies on posts they find interesting.
Reply to other threads
- Look back at the performance of your Threads to see if some get more views, likes, or replies on a given day of the week. For example, posting more frequently on the weekends may help drive higher engagement.¹
Meet your audience when they are active
- Always be yourself and share what you love. Whether your passion is books, photography, fashion, travel or something else - share your unique point of view to start a conversation about the topic.
Own your niche
- Jump on trends and share your thoughts on current events that are likely to be top of mind of your audience. Popular tags often center around current events and pop culture, like sporting events, music or television shows.
Share in the moment
- Our short answer: It's your call - but always include text! Video, photo, and carousel posts that also include text have performed significantly better than posts without any text.¹
- Successful creators share a mix of posts, including text only and posts with photos and videos added. Try supplementing an idea or story with photos, videos, polls, or even your favorite meme. Decisions, decisions.
- Adding topic tags that are relevant to your posts help you reach more people who are interested in that topic specifically, for example, people who tap the same tag from another post or use keyword search to explore their related interest.
- Content that provokes a conversation is more likely to get recommended on Threads. It’s important that your content is relatable, authentic and true to you and your interests.
- For example, sharing an opinion about a topic you care about and including a follow up question or personal story related to that opinion is a good strategy to engage your audience on Threads. Have fun with it and get creative!
- Top-performing creators post original content to Threads. It’s fine to cross-post content from Instagram or Facebook if you are just getting started, but creating text-based content specifically for Threads is a better strategy to engage followers, grow, and reach new audiences.
