INSTAGRAM COMMUNITY STANDARDS
Create and share with care
We want Instagram to be a place where people feel empowered to communicate, and we take our role seriously in keeping abuse off the platform. That’s why we developed standards for what is and isn’t allowed on Instagram.
Our Community Values
We’re committed to expression, and also recognize the internet creates new and increased opportunities for abuse. For these reasons, when we limit expression, we do it in service of one or more of the following values:
- Authenticity. We want to make sure the content people see is authentic. We believe that authenticity creates a better environment for sharing, and that’s why we don’t want people using our services to misrepresent who they are or what they’re doing.
- Safety. We’re committed to making Instagram a safe place. We remove content that could contribute to a risk of harm to the physical security of persons. Content that threatens people has the potential to intimidate, exclude or silence others and isn’t allowed on our services.
- Privacy. We’re committed to protecting personal privacy and information. Privacy gives people the freedom to be themselves, choose how and when to share on our services and connect more easily.
- Dignity. We believe that all people are equal in dignity and rights. We expect that people will respect the dignity of others and not harass or degrade others.
Our Community Standards
Instagram’s Community Standards define what is and what is not allowed on the platforms.
If your content goes against our Community Standards, it will be removed and a strike may be applied to your Instagram account. This is determined by the severity of the content, the context in which it was shared and when it was posted.
To track any Community Standard violations, check your Account Status . This is also where you can appeal any decisions you disagree with.
Age-Appropriate Guidelines
We want teens to have safe, positive experiences on Instagram. By default, teens under 18 will now see accounts and content that is guided by a 13+ movie rating.
If you've posted content that is deemed 18+, your account and its content may be unavailable to teens under 18. You can see if your account has limited reach to teens under 18 by checking Account Status.
Account Status
You can check Account Status to see if you’ve posted something on Instagram goes against our Community Standards and if you have any account restrictions, such as certain features you can no longer use or limits to your account's reach.
If we believe your account or content contains material that may not be appropriate for teens, teens under 18 might not be able to view your account or content. To make your account available to teens under 18, you may need to edit or archive content that's been flagged. We also realize we may not always get it right, so if you disagree with a decision, you may be able to submit a request for an additional review.
We recommend regularly checking Account Status within your Settings to see if there are any limits to your account’s reach and review any violations. Click here to learn more about Account Status.
