Discover Edits tools built with creators to help you stand out
Instagram has a long history with creators, and Edits is our latest love letter to say “we hear you” and we’re continuing to listen. As you work to stand out and express your creativity, you should never feel limited by the tools you use.
I’m Shawn, Engineering manager on the Edits team.
Built for you, with you
Edits was built with creators. We didn’t put creators to work writing code or working through design docs, but creators were there from day one providing feedback to help shape what we build and how we build it.
…and this hasn't stopped!
Myself and the entire Edits team work with creators daily. We have a DM group on Instagram where some of our power users can give feedback and request features, a council of creators that send us notes on how to improve, and regular live meetings with creators to jam on new ideas. A few team members (myself included!) are reading Threads and IG daily looking for feedback. You all mean the world to this team and on behalf of everyone I want to say THANK YOU!
So let’s work on your next video idea together!
The basics for editing and the power tools for creativity
Have you ever found a spark of inspiration scrolling through the Edits inspiration feed or Instagram and thought to yourself “I wonder if I can make that?” @iankyo, who has been working with the Edits team since day one and is the main driver of my late night snacking, is the king of viral recipes – both in cooking and video style. One message that Ian sent to the team is that Edits needs to be simple and easy to use no matter how many features we add. Recently he posted a video making a delicious cheese sauce featuring Ian’s signature audio track, perfectly timed cuts between scenes, and captions for you to read for when you aren’t drooling over the food he is making. Edits aims to make using each of these tools easy at a glance and powerful under the hood.
Take captions for example. With one button press you can have your captions generated and ready to go, but if you want more customization, you can use the bulk editor and style editor to capture the vibe you are looking for. We are regularly releasing new fonts, animations, and effects so make sure to update your app and check them out because it might just be the key to finding your viral recipe!
Use keyframes to bring your reels to life
So you are trying to find your video style and you just finished capturing your clips. Shooting a simple video is a great starting point, but have you ever wanted to follow up with expressive panning, exciting zooms, and motion across each cut to really stand out? The craziest thing about @vitakari (ifykyk) is that they bring incredible personality into nearly every cut of their videos. One way they do this is through a really fun feature called keyframes, which Vita was so passionate about us bringing to Edits.
No more hard cuts to a zoomed frame or awkwardly positioning a video offscreen to focus on something offcenter. Instead, bring your next video to life and give keyframes a try!
"The “easing curve” option for keyframes is a game changer for my illusions!" - @vitakari
