@anubhaviiiiiii on turning real-life observations into relatable Reels
Anubhavi Yadav (@anubhaviiiiiii) is a comedy creator who turns everyday observations into characters her audience can't get enough of. Known for her "that one..." series — think "that one teacher in every parent-teacher meeting" or "that one annoying aunt" — she draws from her upbringing in a smaller Indian city to create Reels that resonate deeply with young audiences. In just one year, she's grown from 20K to 350K followers by staying rooted in observational comedy and never filtering out the real.
GROWTH IN ACTION
“My highest-performing Trial Reel hit 3.6M views and 2,000 new followers in three days on its own. That's when I realized the power of experimentation and how important it is for me to stay consistent.”
From working at an ad agency to creating Reels, how did you first discover your unique comedic voice and make the leap?
Working full-time at an ad agency meant I’d jot down Reel ideas instantly. I’d shoot after work or batch 5-6 Reels over weekends in my kitchen for light. I had to do it alone, so the single-character approach emerged. The ‘Red Flag Girl’s’ strong performance validated this, inspiring a universe of personalities. And as my Reels gained traction, I decided to rebrand to speak to a wider and a more diverse audience.
You went from jumping on trends to building original characters. What inspired that shift?
Initially, I jumped on trends like dance Reels or Bollywood tropes, but I hit a ceiling. To push boundaries, I tapped into real life, developing ‘girl next door’ and ‘aunty next door’ series leaning into a more culturally specific, locally rooted storytelling. Going back to my hometown is a research trip to stay connected to how people speak, their dialects, their humor. I wanted my content to feel real. As a person of colour in a society where light skin color is often considered more desirable, not altering my appearance to fit a certain standard was important. My characters needed to be grounded, not caricatured. So I also chose not to use filters early on. This shift resonated deeply, proving genuine storytelling is what drives my growth.
Beyond likes and shares, how do you truly know when a new character or concept will deeply resonate with your audience on Reels?
I watch comments and DMs closely; that’s where resonance is clear. People ask for Part 2s or suggest scenarios. The nature of engagement also shifts from simple reactions to conversational responses. With characters like the ‘Girl Who Has a Crush on Her Didi ka Devar,’ people responded as if I was the character, bringing 11,442 new followers in three days. This shows the character truly landed and deepens connection.
How do you use Instagram's tools to figure out what's working?
Beyond qualitative feedback, I swear by the monthly metrics that my Professional Dashboard presents. It shows when my audience is active, which Reels perform best, and what formats could become a series. This data-driven approach helps me find a sweet spot between what my audience wants and what I want to do as a creator. Trial Reels are especially useful for testing new formats without pressure. I used Trial Reels to test celebrity impressions, and that Reel hit 3.6M views in three days. And since then, I haven’t stopped Trials. It is my true testing ground.
What's something you wish more creators knew about speeding up their creative process?
Creators can use the Edits app to fill several gaps in their editing process. For example, I’ve used it now in more than 85+ Reels since April 2025 and what used to take 30 minutes, now takes under 10. I can put 90% of my energy into performing and 10% into posting. The voice enhancement and silence trimming alone save me so much time on audio cleanup. And the transitions and effects just make everything look more polished without the extra effort.
Meta AI translations within the app have expanded my global footprint; my ‘Wife Who Doesn’t Hesitate’ Reel got translated into so many languages within just two days — regional and international. It was wild to see my content connect across languages I don't even speak.
What advice would you give to creators just starting out — especially those from smaller towns or diverse backgrounds?
Don’t wait for opportunities. People from smaller Indian towns are often told to blend in, but your difference is your strength. And the discovery through Reels is incredible! It allowed me to turn my weekend kitchen shoots into a global community. I love that it’s an all-in-one space where I can go from a quick idea to a polished character IP, and then immediately hear from my audience in my DMs. That direct feedback loop, combined with the creative tools, makes it the perfect home for my brand of storytelling. So, just start creating, stay consistent, and trust that an authentic perspective will always find its audience on Reels.
