Expanding Translations to More Languages to Help You Reach Bigger Audiences on Reels

Today, we’re excited to announce you can now use Meta AI to translate reels in Hindi and Portuguese, in addition to English and Spanish, with more languages coming soon. With this expansion, creators can overcome language barriers to reach some of our largest Reels markets by automatically dubbing and lipsyncing their reels for free, helping them grow an international audience.

Translations use the sound and tone of your voice, so your reels feel authentically you. The optional lip syncing feature synchronizes your mouth’s movements to the translated audio, so it looks like you’re actually speaking the language for a seamless viewing experience. You’re in full control of the entire experience, and can turn it on and off and review or remove translations at any time.

New translation tools coming soon

We’re also introducing exciting, new translation features that will make your reels even more globally accessible with no extra effort required on your part:

  • Text & caption stickers: When you add text stickers or caption stickers to your reel, you’ll soon have the option to automatically translate them into our supported languages.
  • Translating reels with multiple speakers: Soon, you’ll be able to translate reels when multiple people are speaking, unlocking more ways for you to share with audiences around the world.

Creators on reaching new audiences with Meta AI

A couple months ago, we launched English to Spanish and Spanish to English translations, and we’re excited to see early success from creators, who are connecting with more people globally.

How to translate your reels with Meta AI

Translating your reels is as simple as a tap of a button. To get started, before publishing your reel, toggle the “Translate voices with Meta AI” setting on. Tap the “translation settings” link to add lip syncing and select which languages you want your reels to be translated into. You can also opt to preview and approve your translations before they’re shared. Note: if you don’t see the toggle on the initial screen, tap “More options” to access it.

When the translations are ready to review, you’ll receive a notification, prompting you to publish or discard them. Choosing either will not impact the original reel you posted.

Once your translated reel is published, you can see a new breakdown of views by language to help you understand how each translation is performing.

Best practices to make the most of your translated reels

  • Face forward, speak clearly, and avoid covering your mouth for translation to work best.
  • For now, translate reels with only one speaker. Soon, you’ll be able to translate reels that have multiple speakers.
  • Minimize excessive background noise or music in reels you want to translate.
  • Stay consistent. Remember you are building a new audience in a new language. Give them time to get to know you and your content.
